Founded in August 2024, The Delhi Flood Resilience Initiative strives to include a diverse range of strategies to mitigate the impact of flooding in identified urban areas. At the very core of DFRI’s mission is conceptualizing a mathematical model that could predict extreme climate events in a region, especially flood-prone spaces, through the projection of real-time climate data, historical flood trends, and topography. The goal of the model is to serve as a helpful tool that allows governments and local individuals to gain insights and utilize these in etter urban planning and resource allocation. The initiative also looks forward to enhancing the resilience of underserved communities by distributing seasonal readiness kits and water purifiers that ensure families are better supported during the monsoons.
In addition to direct, on-ground efforts, DFRI is committed towards raising awareness and encouraging systematic changes in flood management through varied advocacy efforts including research, awareness generation through podcast interviews, and proposing recommendations to cause-relevant agencies. Through these diverse efforts, the Delhi Food Resilience Initiative hopes to foster a better informed and ready community of people that can stand strong against the challenges presented by urban flooding.
